Princess Diana: The Beginning

Princess Diana's Early Years

Princess Diana was born in 1961 to the Viscount Althorp, Edward John Spencer and his first wife the Viscountess Frances Spencer. Princess Diana was named for her mother and was called Diana Frances Spencer; she was the youngest daughter and had 3 siblings, two elder sisters and a younger brother Charles. Her early childhood was spent at the family home, Park House, which was located in Sandringham, Norfolk in England.

Princess Diana's childhood could best be described as turbulent, a pattern that was to haunt the princess for the remainder of her life. When she was 6 years old her mother and father got divorced over Lady Spencer's affair with with wallpaper heir Peter Shand Kydd.
